About The Venue

The Perfect Venue For The NZ Outdoor Adventure Expo...

Finding the perfect venue to showcase the best that the New Zealand outdoor and recreation industries have to offer was an essential component to the success of the Expo.

The brief was simple ... over 2,000 square metres of indoor flat floor space with high ceiling clearance and easy access for pack-in and out for retailers, over 2,000 square metres of grassed area that was directly connected to the indoor area for a camping expo, a large sand-pit to house an assault course, space outdoors for an entertainment stage and food vendors plus ample parking close to the Expo entrance for the thousands of visitors!

Pioneer Sport & Recreation Centre plus the adjoining Centennial Park complex complete with sand volleyball courts ticked every box!

Pioneer Sport & Recreation Centre

The main stadium at Pioneer Sport & Recreation Centre consist of three basketball courts; this is the area used to house the indoor displays, the Golf Expo and the rock climbing wall. A First-Aid room and Exhibitor Lounge are also located on the ground floor, while the upper viewing gallery is the location for a DOC Kid's Conservation Corner.

Access for pack in and out is via four double doors and a loading dock which lead directly out into the carpark; allowing exhibitors to park at the door to load and unload. The stadium also boasts a 12-metre high ceiling making it possible for the rock climbing wall to be housed inside.

Centennial Park

Located immediately beside Pioneer Sport & Recreation Centre, Centennial Park is a large grassed complex of playing fields plus a large sand volleyball court. It is connected to the main stadium via a sealed carpark area. Over 2,000 square metres of the grassed area will be used for the Camping Expo, the balance of the grass park will be used for parking for Expo visitors. The sealed area will be home to the Entertainment Stage and food court and the sand volleyball courts will be used to house the Assault Course.

Location

Pioneer Leisure Centre is located at 75 Lyttelton St, just 15-minutes from the Christchurch CBD in the suburb of Spreydon.
